Alec Mapa stars as Adam Benet, Mona's wisecracking assistant at Delicious Records, in UPN's comedy HALF & HALF.
Mapa has guest starred in more than 30 television series, including DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, I'M WITH HER, SEINFELD, ROSEANNE, NYPD BLUE and FRIENDS. He was television's first gay Asian series regular in SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS opposite Jason Bateman.
On film, Mapa most recently starred alongside Nia Vardalos in CONNIE AND CARLA. His other film credits include FALLING OFF THE VERGE, PLAYING BY HEART, SUBSTANCE OF FIRE, BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY and A NEW LIFE AND HOME.
Mapa starred on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning play "M. Butterfly" and toured with the production throughout America and Canada. He also appeared on Broadway in "A Little Hotel on the Side" and "Timon of Athens," as well as the New York Shakespeare Festival productions of "A Language of Their Own" and "Dogeaters."
Most recently, in Los Angeles, Mapa reprised his role in "M. Butterfly," opposite Arye Gross, and starred in the Christopher Durang musical "Adrift in Macao." Noted as a playwright, Mapa's theatrical work includes writing and starring in his one-man hit shows, "I Remember Mapa," "Pointless and Drama" and "Mapa Mia" produced by the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and seen across the United States. Mapa received numerous accolades for his work in these plays, including the L.A. Drama Critics Award, the Ovation Award, two Dramalogue Awards as well as a citation from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force for continuing excellence of his work.
As an out gay actor of Filipino descent, Mapa has long been a worker for causes benefiting AIDS and the gay, lesbian and Asian-American communities, including Project Angel Food and AIDS Project Los Angeles. For his dedication, Mapa was recently honored with the East West Visionary Award, the Rand Schraeder Distinguished Achievement Award from the Gay and Lesbian Center of Los Angeles and the Davidson/Valentini Award from GLADD, and he was nominated for a Maggie Award for his editorial columns for The Advocate magazine. Mapa was selected as the 2005 Grand Marshal of the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade and was on the list of Out magazine's "Top Out One Hundred" in 2004.
