DIRECTOR HAROLD CRONK
Cronk grew up in beautiful northern Michigan, where he attended Central Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Art. After graduation, Cronk became an Art Teacher for Grades 9 through 12 and was named Teacher of the Year twice.
As much as Cronk loved teaching, his true passion became evident when he wrote and directed his first short film, SOUTH MANITOU, a psychological thriller. Next, he directed THE AGENT which was a festival success. As one reviewer said, “The Agent is a movie-sized mystery, complete with deceptions and detours, which has been compacted into 22 stylish minutes”.
Cronk re-located to Los Angeles, after working as an Assistant Art Director on the Warner Bros Television movie DEAR DOUGHBOY, directed by Penelope Spheeris.
Within months, Cronk was the Production Designer for SECRET OF THE CAVE directed by Zach Gray. The Columiba TriStar feature film was shot on location in Ireland.
The Magic Johnson Foundation then hired him to direct a Lincoln Navigator commercial, starring Earvin “Magic” Johnson, to run in conjunction with NBA All Star Weekend.
Director Penny Marshall chose Cronk to Art Direct her production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. The award-winning Marshall imparted some advice on the young director for his next film, “Buy a comfortable pair of shoes”!
Cronk took her advice, and the shoes were put to the test during the filming of WAR PRAYER. Inspired by a Mark Twain short story, Cronk spent six months building props in his studio while working on the script with award-winning writer, Rik Swartzwelder. Cronk and his team created a sixty-acre battlefield with trenches, forests, and concrete machinegun bunkers.
Cronk resides in Los Angeles with his wife Amy, a grade school teacher in Beverly Hills.
