As a highly regarded celebrity in her native Israel, Shirly Brener has ventured to international work with her diverse career in Film, Television, Theater and Hosting. Born in Haifa and raised in London and Los Angeles. Brener began her career following her mother’s (a well respected theater and film actress) footsteps at age 2 doing commercials for Merci Chocolate in France and Germany. Later she made appearances in Israeli films such as Mr. Leon and the Israeli Academy Award winner Mr. Baum, directed by Asi Dian. At 15, Brener was accepted to the prestigious theatrical performing arts department of Beverly Hills High, acting in productions such as “The life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby"and “The Pirates of Penzance”. She later went on to act in local community theater landing leading roles in productions such as “The Heidi Chronicles” and “It Had To Be You”. Shirly booked her first breakthrough role opposite Henry Thomas in the film Hijacking Hollywood. In the late 90's, Brener landed a contract to appear as a series regular on the popular Israeli nighttime drama Ramat Aviv Gimmel. This lead to her notable job as the host of MTV’s Singled Out. Shirly arrived back in Los Angeles a couple of years ago and completed her Art History degree from the University of Southern California. She graduated on the Dean’s list. While in school, Brener managed to continue acting in films such as Lions Gate The Gray Zone, directed by Tim Blake Nelson, opposite Mira Sorvino and Harvey Keitel, as well as Blind Horizon starring Val Kilmer, Sam Shepard and Faye Danway and Shadow of Fear starring James Spader and Aidan Quinn. Shirly just shoot a lead role opposite Armand Assante and Udo Kier in the film Children of Wax, directed by the European award winning director- Ivan Nichev and produced by the legendary Hollywood producer- Menahem Golan of Cannon Group. Shirly also booked a supporting role in a new Steven Segal film Mercenary, playing a field reporter in an action filled film. This past year has marked a new phase for Shirly as she ventured out on the producing end, Executive Producing the short film Shoot as well as a documentary, which she produced, directed, wrote, shot, and co-edited about her father (a famous sport figure in Israel) Danny the Golden Fish. She is currently producing a full-length feature film (“A.K.A”), as well as developing other projects for TV and film. The ambitious Brener was accepted to the MBA program at Pepperdine University. Brener credits her supportive family and friends to her success, well-being and positive attitude - they are those who have guided and supported her through her art, career, academics and her life. |
