Actress, Angie Ruiz, currently in the new Fox Searchlight film starring Richard Gere, BEE SEASON, originally landed her first starring role opposite television star Michael DeLorenzo in the independent feature film IN YOUR EYES. Angie then starred in award winning writer/director Joel Silverman’s coming of age comedy SURF SCHOOL, which premiers in October 2005. In SURF SCHOOL, Angie stars as the scintillating MARIANA amongst an all-star cast including Harland Williams, Laura Bell Bundy, Sisqo and Ryan Carnes. Angie’s next starring role will be in the film, ROBODOC, directed by Taylor Negron, which begins shooting in November 2005. Angie has also managed to pursue her passion for travel visiting the Middle East and doing volunteer work on the ground in Africa where she led a peer education program to raise HIV/AIDS awareness among villages in Tanzania Born in Redding, California Angie enjoyed a happy childhood growing up around the lakes and mountains of Northern California. In high school, she co-produced FASHION ROCK a Broadway type collaboration of music, dance and fashion. She graduated a year early and after earning two academic scholarships was off to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. After graduation, she moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in fashion. Her plans changed when she met a casting director who asked her to read for a role in Miramax’s 40 DAYS and 40 NIGHTS. She didn’t get the role, but she was noticed by director Michael Lehmann who asked her to be featured in the movie with Josh Hartnett. “I had so much fun on the set” says Angie, “I immediately knew this was my calling.” Angie continues to pursue her interests in other cultures and humanitarian projects visiting at least two countries a year either for leisure or volunteer work. |
