The Rainmaker
The Lima Theatre Workshop presented it's 23rd major production, The Rainmaker at the A. A. A. Theatre, May 21-25.
Produced by Irwin Marks and Toby Heller and directed by Gil Goluskin, this production was generally acknowledged by the appreciative and enthusiastic audiences to be one of the best efforts to date by the Workshop.
Dortia Lamont and Bob Perham (Jeremy Slate) were outstanding in their respective roles of Lizzie and Starbuck.
The play commenced slowly (the author's fault) but suddenly Bob Perham (Jeremy Slate) burst upon the scene like a tornado. From his entrance onwards there was never a dull moment. His obvious relish for the part was soon communicated to the audience and we knew that, even if rain did not come, something equally exciting would happen. Starbuck took command of the homestead and Bob Perham (Jeremy Slate) took command of Starbuck, so convincingly, that one wondered how he could keep up his swashbuckling and last through the performance. But he did so with the greatest of ease and never let the part run away with him.
Romantic scenes are dreaded by amateurs; Starbuck and Lizzie sailed through theirs with a delicacy and polish that was one of the outstanding pieces of acting (and direction) of the production.
